McCloud the Duck

Procrastination ... I'd rather be in Tahoe...
I know, I know ... the duck log was supposed to be my SUMMER project, and summer for me is still 10 days away. Report cards aren't nearly as much fun though, so I'll let myself indulge.

David and I both needed a getaway last weekend ... too many kids, too much LeapFrog-ing. Enter Julie, my soon to be housemate. She offered to let us crash at her new pad in Tahoe, located in a community called "McCloud" (ohhhh...) We quickly jumped at the offer. POOF! Instant vacation. Just what we needed.

Mysteriously, there was little traffic up to San Francisco Friday night to pick up David. We crammed loads of stuff into the car, including blades, food, cameras, and McCloud -- car camping style! Even less traffic over the Bay Bridge and all the way up 80 to Tahoe. Spooky for a holiday weekend. Where is everybody?

The "before" condo was sparse, but comfortable. See pics at http://f2.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/jencwu@sbcglobal.net/album?.dir=/f65e. (Bet you can't wait to see it "after" the remodel! Stay tuned...)

It was early morning before we got to bed. I slept in. David set his alarm to get a jump start on breakfast. I was hoping for a wake up call of "breakfast is ready," but we got up about the same time. Matzo meal pancakes (sans salt, oh well). Who knew that matzo came in forms other than over-sized saltines or gigantic soupy balls? The pancakes were yet another yummy variation, especially with honey and cinnamon sugar.

We headed to the beach for some kayaking, the perfect way to take in the area and bond with my new buddy McCloud. He showed us how it should be done. The weather was perfect as was the scenery. Deep blue water, sandy emerald bays, snow covered peaks beyond the distant CA shore. We never did find the nude beach. The front of the kayak where I paddled from stayed pretty dry. Can't say the same for the back. Big thanks to David for taking it for the team.
